NesArtist, Iceland Fall 202  https://neslist.is I look forward to exploring the contrasting landscapes and unique geologies of Iceland with NesArt residency program is located in the small fishing village of Skagaströnd in bay Húnaflói on the north coast of Iceland.

At NesArt, I will be developing new creative material for a scenography of participatory environment: Script for Landscapes, inspired by the large contrasts in the unique geology of the Northern Icelandic landscape, ranging from volcanic scenes to glacial rivers, canyons and waterfalls, as well as through the local stories and myths that Icelanders associate with many of these natural wonders. This new creative research will strive to establish novel methods of engaging creative material (combining projections of collected audio-visual compositions of landscapes, layers of transparent fabrics and participants’ drawings, voice recordings and/or conversations) in providing audiences of the environment with a powerful sense of belonging to the sheer force of contrasting nature, as well as a profound connection to the communities that belong to these lands. By participating in the performance of landscapes, and by relating to stories of scenography that not only envelops the audience’s entire physical being, but also inspires them to act, this project aims to raise awareness of our belonging to the larger context of the environment and its performance through our individual roles in the scenographies of global ecologies threatened by climate change.

We will see more on this work in the fall 2020. Meanwhile, hope you enjoy some of my research photos from my last visit in 2018. As I remember driving through this land was the unfolding of one story into another....I look forward to returning and working on on this new project - Script for Landscapes and the many workshops with the local communities at NesArt!
